food distribution in the community

The Food Bank of West Central Texas works with Food Pantries and Meal Sites to provide food for a broad cross-section of households in our 13-county service area. One out of every five adults and one out of every four children in the Big Country has difficulty meeting basic nutritional needs, and the Food Bank of West Central Texas aims to lower these statistics.

Our network of volunteers, food pantries, and meal sites have been providing Abilene and the surrounding Big Country with vital nutrition since 1984, and will continue to feed the hungry population in the future.

How Does Food Get To The Community?

“For every $10 donated, the Food Bank can provide enough food for about 50 meals – an amazing multiplier effect rarely matched in the non-profit community.”

We distribute food through about 150 food pantries and meal sites in our West Central Texas service area. These locations include church pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, after school programs serving disadvantaged children, daycare centers, senior citizen centers and rehabilitation facilities.

By partnering with FBWCT, these locations maximize their resources and expand their ability to fulfill their missions.
