Food stamps are a key way to address the nutritional needs of low-income Texas families and one of the nation’s most important defenses against hunger. However, many barriers to participation remain. Nationally, only 60 percent of those eligible for food stamps receive them. In Texas, only 58 percent of those eligible receive food stamps.
The Food Bank of West Central Texas’ Coordinator can help increase enrollment through application assistance in 13 Texas counties. It’s completely free and no cost to the applicants.
