Food Bank of West Central Texas Celebrates New Facility with Ribbon Cutting, Expanding Access to Food Assistance

ABILENE, Texas — April 21, 2026

The Food Bank of West Central Texas will celebrate the opening of its new facility with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, April 29 at 12:00 P.M. The new facility marks a major step forward in increasing access to food and resources for families across the region.

The new facility is designed to improve accessibility to nutritious food, expand critical services, and allow the organization to serve a greater number of neighbors facing food insecurity throughout West Central Texas.

The project was made possible through a $1.5 million grant from the Texas Department of Agriculture awarded in late 2022, along with an additional $2.5 million raised through the generous support of private donors, foundations, and corporate partners.

“This new facility represents a significant investment in our community,” said Brandon Forrest, CEO of the Food Bank of West Central Texas. “It allows us to better meet the growing need for food assistance while creating a more efficient and welcoming space for those we serve.”

Key features of the new facility include a dedicated community space, an enhanced volunteer hub, and a state-of-the-art drive-thru mobile pantry. Beginning in May 2026, the mobile pantry will be open to the public on the second Saturday (9:00-10:30 A.M.) and third Monday (4:30-6:00 P.M.) of each month. A distribution on the first Thursday (9:00-10:30 A.M.) of each month will be reserved for Taylor County residents age 55 and older.

The ribbon cutting will also coincide with the City of Abilene’s proclamation of “Feeding Neighbors Day,” recognizing the ongoing efforts to fight hunger and support local families. Abilene Mayor Weldon Hurt and State Representative Stan Lambert will be in attendance.

The Food Bank of West Central Texas extends its gratitude to the many partners who made this project possible, including the Texas Department of Agriculture, The Crowe Group Inc., Parkhill, Oracle, the H-E-B Hunger Relief Program, Mabee Foundation, Community Foundation of Abilene, and numerous other foundations, organizations, and individual donors.
