TRUCKLOAD OF FOOD ARRIVES IN ABILENE AS PART OF NATIONAL AMERICA250 INITIATIVE

ABILENE, Texas - May 6, 2026

Community invited to celebration and volunteer opportunity on May 6th

ABILENE, Texas — May 4, 2026 — The Food Bank of West Central Texas will celebrate a significant donation of food on Wednesday, May 6 at 11:00 a.m., as part of the America250 “America Gives” initiative, a nationwide effort to fight hunger and commemorate America’s 250th anniversary.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and JustServe.org are collaborating with America 250 to celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday, with the goal to make 2026 an extraordinary year of giving and serving. JustServe is a free web platform where people can find local volunteer opportunities to serve.

In collaboration with the America 250 - America Gives initiative, the Church is delivering 250 truckloads of food to 250 food banks in all 50 states. Trucks making these deliveries are wrapped in special signage that reflects the collaboration between America 250, the Church, and JustServe.org. These 250 deliveries will provide approximately 10 million meals to families in need.

In lieu of volunteers assisting with the truck unloading, a special volunteer food-packing event will take place in the drive-through area. Community members are invited to join the packing effort, turning this celebration into an opportunity to help feed local families.
